Reaction Roles on Discord: Self-Assign Roles with Buttons, Menus or Emojis
Let members pick their own roles with Fibra Role Panels: buttons, dropdowns or classic emoji reaction roles, with modes for single-choice, opt-out and permanent roles.
Self-assign roles let members tell you what they're into, which games they play, where they're from or which pings they want, without asking a moderator. Fibra's Role Panels post a message where members pick their roles in a tap.
Three styles to choose from
| Style | How members pick | Up to |
|---|---|---|
| Buttons | Tap a button. Each one is clearly labelled with the role. | 25 roles |
| Dropdown | Choose from a menu. Each option can have a short description. | 25 roles |
| Reactions | React with an emoji. Fibra lists which emoji gives which role. | 20 roles |
Four ways roles can behave
- Pick and unpick: take any roles and drop them again. Ideal for game or interest roles.
- Just one: picking a role swaps out the previous one. Perfect for name colours, regions or pronouns.
- Keep forever: roles are only given, never removed by the panel, for things like "I've read the rules".
- Remove only: the panel only takes roles away, handy for opting out of pings.
Creating a panel
- 1Open Role Panels on the dashboardClick New panel and give it a name only you see, like
Game roles. - 2Pick a channel, style and modeChoose where it goes and how it should behave.
- 3Write the messageAdd a title, a short explanation and a colour. The preview shows exactly how it will look.
- 4Add your rolesPick each role, then add an emoji from the picker (standard or your server's own) and an optional label or description.
- 5Post itClick Post panel. Edit it later and Fibra updates the same message, including its reactions.
Safe by design
A role panel should never hand out power by accident, so Fibra blocks roles that carry moderator or admin permissions. It also only offers roles below its own highest role (so it can actually give them) and below your own highest role. These checks happen again every time a member picks a role, so changing a role's permissions later can't open a loophole.
What members see
- With buttons or a dropdown, they get a private reply listing exactly which roles were added or removed.
- With reactions, adding a reaction gives the role and removing it takes it away.
- In Just one mode with reactions, Fibra tidies up their other reactions so the message always matches their role.
Ideas for role panels
- Notification pings: announcements, events, giveaways, streams.
- Games: one role per game so people can find teammates.
- Colours: a "Just one" panel of colour roles.
- Regions and languages: help people find others in their time zone.
- Pronouns: let members share theirs on their profile.
Frequently asked questions
Why can't I add some roles to a panel?+
Fibra hides roles with moderator or admin permissions, roles above Fibra's own role, and roles above your highest role.
Can I use my server's custom emojis?+
Yes. The emoji picker shows your server's emojis alongside popular standard ones.
Do members lose their roles if I delete a panel?+
No. Deleting a panel removes its message, but members keep the roles they already picked.
What does the bot need to give roles?+
The Manage Roles permission, and its role must sit above every role it hands out. The dashboard warns you if not.
Fibra is free to add. Setup takes under a minute.
