Welcome Messages, Welcome Cards and Captcha Verification on Discord

Greet new members with custom welcome and goodbye messages, image or GIF welcome cards, and keep bots out with captcha verification. Set up Fibra's Member Journey.

Dashboard· 3 min read

First impressions matter. Fibra's Member Journey covers the whole path of a member through your server: a check that they're human when they arrive, a warm welcome, and a goodbye when they leave. Everything is set up from one page on the dashboard, with a live preview that looks exactly like Discord.

How the journey works

  1. 1
    Someone joins
If verification is on, they only see the verify channel until they pass a quick captcha.
  2. 2
    They get welcomed
Fibra posts your welcome message, and can wait until after verification so bots never get a welcome.
  3. 3
    They leave
Fibra posts your goodbye message in the channel you chose.

Writing your welcome message

Each message can have plain text, an embed, an image card and up to five link buttons, all optional. Start from the default message Fibra suggests or write your own. Discord formatting like bold, lists and links works as normal.

Use variables to make every message personal. Fibra fills them in when it sends the message:

VariableBecomes
{user}A mention of the new member, so they get pinged
{username}Their username, without a ping
{server}Your server's name
{member_count}How many members the server has now
{user_avatar}Their avatar (for images, like the embed thumbnail)
{server_icon}Your server's icon

Welcome cards

A welcome card is an image Fibra creates for every new member, with their avatar and a line of text like "Welcome to the server". It makes a welcome feel special and looks great in busy channels.

  • Upload your own background (PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF, up to 8 MB) or use a colour.
  • Zoom and position the background so the important part of the image is in view.
  • Animated GIF backgrounds are supported. Fibra keeps the animation and draws the member's avatar and text on every frame.
  • Choose colours for the text, subtitle and the ring around the avatar.

Goodbye messages

Goodbye messages work the same way as welcomes, with their own text, embed, card and channel. Many servers use a quieter channel for goodbyes, or a simple one-line message.

Captcha verification

Raids and spam bots usually join in waves. Verification stops them at the door: new members click Verify, see an image with a short code, and type it in. Pass, and they get the role that unlocks your server.

  1. 1
    Create a verified role
Make a role (for example Verified) and set up your channels so only that role can see them.
  2. 2
Pick the verify channel and role
On the Member Journey page, turn on verification, choose the channel everyone can see, and choose the role to give.
  3. 3
    Publish
Fibra posts the verify message with its button. Edit the title, text, colour or button label any time and publish again to update it.

Testing before you go live

The preview on the right updates as you type, using your own name and avatar. When you're happy, use the test button to send a real message to the channel and see it in Discord.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a GIF as my welcome card background?+

Yes. Upload a GIF up to 8 MB and Fibra keeps it animated, with the new member's avatar and text on every frame.

Will bots get welcomed if I use captcha verification?+

Not if you turn on welcome after verification. The welcome is only sent once someone passes the captcha.

What happens if someone gets the captcha wrong?+

They can try again or get a new code. After too many wrong answers, Fibra asks them to wait a few minutes.

Why can't I pick a certain role for verification?+

Fibra blocks roles with moderator or admin permissions, and roles above its own role, because it couldn't give them or it would be unsafe.

Ready to try it?

Fibra is free to add. Setup takes under a minute.
